As tooth decay advances, it will eventually reach the nerves in the root of your tooth, called the pulp. When this happens, you’ll start feeling sensitivity with hot and subsequently toothache. If left untreated, this can turn into an abscess or damage the tooth to the point of extraction.
A root canal treatment removes the decay and infected pulp responsible for tooth ache. A tooth can survive without the pulp, making a root canal treatment a great way to keep your tooth and restore function and smile.
Root canals may also be necessary to treat a cracked tooth or to prevent issues from a previous filling or a crown.
